Gilbane picked for downtown Chicago project

Gilbane Building Company has won an expansion and renovation project in downtown Chicago.

Hines appointed Gilbane as the general contractor for the 45,000-square-foot scheme at 321 North Clark.

The scope includes enlarging and refurbishing the main lobby area, creation of integral retail and restaurant space, the construction of a partial mezzanine level and the remodeling and reconfiguration of portions of the other levels, as well as complete elevator modernization.

Construction will start in the second quarter of 2018 after an intensive preconstruction effort and will conclude in two phases, with the majority of the work in the first quarter of 2019. The balance of the elevator modernization will be completed in the third quarter of 2019.

Other key players on the project include Goettsch Partners and Thornton Tomasetti.
