Lane wins Florida road widening contract

Lane Construction has won a US$76m contract to widen a stretch of road in Florida.

The contract involves the widening of a section of State Road 408 (SR 408) in Orange County. It entails adding a lane to a 3.24-mile stretch of the road in each direction so that each direction will have three rather than two lanes. Also included in the project is the widening of a ramp from two lanes to three lanes, the addition of sound walls and provision of extra open road tolling (ORT) lanes.

The work is designed to help relieve congestion and improve safety along a stretch of road that handles more than 77,000 vehicles every day – a volume that is expected to increase to more than 85,000 vehicles by 2020.

Construction is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2017 and take about 24 months to complete.
