Massachusetts lets contract for two new bridges

Massachusetts Department of Transportation has awarded DW White a US$29.4m contract to replace two bridges on Route 3.

This project, which involves replacing bridges in Norwell and Hanover, is expected to begin this summer and be completed by 2020.

The scope of work includes replacing existing steel bridges, increasing the vertical clearance under the bridges, constructing  concrete abutments, realigning Route 3 at each location, and paving areas as appropriate.

Construction operations will be completed in four primary stages over the three-year project in order to minimize the impact on the traveling public. New bridges will be constructed in the median area at each location to accommodate traffic flow while the existing bridge superstructures and approaches on the mainline are demolished and then reconstructed.
