Walsh picked for Kentucky bridge replacement

Walsh Construction has won the contract to replace Kennedy Mill Bridge linking Mercer and Garrard counties in Kentucky.

The contract for Kentucky Transportation Cabinet involves building a new US$29.6m bridge over the course of two and a half years.

The existing 93-year-old bridge has been closed repeatedly in recent years for repairs due to deterioration. The 804-foot-long bridge is an important component to local travel across Herrington Lake, with 1,438 vehicles crossing the bridge per day in 2012.

The contract includes demolition and removal of the existing bridge.
