Flatiron team wins North Carolina highway contract

A joint venture of Flatiron and Blythe Development has won a contract to build three segments of the Winston-Salem Northern Beltway in North Carolina.

The US$140m project includes a seven mile stretch of six-lane divided highway from University Parkway to Old Walkertown Road. The project also includes new bridge structures, drainage, overhead signs and intelligent transportation system (ITS) devices.

The three new segments (U-2579D, E and F) are part of the planned 34-mile semi-circle around the northern side of Winston-Salem.

Design is expected to begin soon with construction beginning in the middle of next year. Completion is due in late 2021.
