JV lands $673m Californian highway contract

A joint venture led by Lane Construction has won a design-build contact for Contract 1 of the I-10 Corridor Express Lanes project in Southern California.

Lane will work with Security Paving Company on the contract, whose overall value amounts to US$672.9m; Lane’s share is valued at US$404m.

The I-10 corridor serves local, commuter and interstate travellers in the Inland Empire metropolitan area, which has experienced significant population growth in recent years. Further growth of more than 50% is anticipated. The I-10 is also a major trucking route between Southern California and the rest of the United States.

The contract involves designing and constructing 11 miles of two express lanes in each direction of the I-10 from the Los Angeles/San Bernardino County line to east of the I-10/I-15 interchange. Once completed, the lanes are expected to reduce traffic congestion, increase throughput, enhance trip reliability and provide long-term congestion management of the corridor in the Inland Empire.

Work is expected to begin by the end of this year and be completed in the first half of 2023.#
