Liebherr to build $45m extension at US plant

Construction machinery and earthmoving equipment manufacturer Liebherr is to invest US$45m expanding its facilities in Newport News, Virginia.

Liebherr has been manufacturing and operating in Newport News for over 48 years. The new expansion will include the construction of three new buildings on 28 acres adjacent to the current factory.

The 251,000 square feet expansion will provide space for Liebherr USA’s new headquarters and administrative building, a production and workshop facility, and a warehouse and distribution building. Construction is expected to begin in July and be completed by summer of 2020.

Mayor of Newport News McKinley Price said: “I am excited that Liebherr has chosen to again expand and grow its Newport News facility. Employing over 400 people, Liebherr is an important industrial employer and has been a committed corporate citizen during its 48-year tenure in Newport News. This $45 million investment indicates confidence in our City as a place to grow and be successful.”
