Texas moves forward with US 377 relief route

Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is set to award the construction contract for a three-mile road to the west of Cresson as a relief route for US 377.

Pending final approval at the end of this month, TxDOT will award the US$61m contract to Zachry Construction Corporation.

The relief route will be a new four-lane divided highway on US 377 beginning one mile south of the intersection of US 377 and SH 171 and ending one mile north of the same intersection. It will alleviate congestion at the current at-grade crossing with the Fort Worth & Western Railroad (FWWR) rail line.

Over the next four to six months, TxDOT will finalize right of way and coordinate with utility companies to relocate underground water, sewer, telecommunications, gas lines and overhead electric utilities ahead of construction work.

Construction of the relief route will begin early next year for completion in 2022.
